Plantation, essay contest mark World Environment Day at Sawalkote HE Project | KNO

Srinagar, Jun 05 (KNO): Bringing local students and employees together to raise environmental awareness and encourage plantation of trees, the Sawalkote HE Project on Friday marked the World Environment Day with an essay writing competition and a major plantation drive here at the project headquarters in Tanger, Ramban. Scores of students, belonging to local schools of Tanger, participated in the joyful essay writing competition and reflected on their understanding of the environment and conservation mechanisms. The was the first-of-its-kind event for the local students and provided them with a valuable platform to showcase their talent and spread awareness on the subject, which forms the bedrock of NHPC's remarkable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. In a press release issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Head of the Project (HOP) Dinabandhu Boral highlighted the importance of preserving environment for human-life and ecosystems saying that a responsible citizenry will chalk the roadmap for a sustainable future. "Global climate-change has upended established systems. We now need to be far more responsible; we must be fully mindful of the potential consequences of our actions and find ways to mitigate their impact, both at a large scale and on an individual level," Boral said in his address to students, teachers and project staff. The HOP, along with Independent Evaluator Mrs Reeta Boral, felicitated the participating students and offered warm-prizes to the top position holders. In the first category-designated for grades 2 through 5 and marked by the highest level of competition-International Hills Public School, Tangar, secured all three winning positions while students from PM Shri High School, Tangar, faced stiff competition among themselves and emerged as winners uncontested in the categories for grades 5-8 and 9-10. All the students were overjoyed with the event, in which they were warmly welcomed and offered refreshments and stationary kits. The attending teachers later expressed gratitude to the project for providing the valuable platform to their students. On the other hand, the project employees striking a chord with school-students, also sat down to write a note on the theme of the day and provided their individual commitments and valuable thoughts towards the environment. This was followed up by a major-plantation drive at the project headquarters with HOP, Shri Boral and employees planting saplings in the office and colony premises while also distributing dozens of them to locals. The major initiative reflects NHPC's commitment to environment, its preservation and empowerment of local communities. The event-stage, which stood as a center of attention, was managed by Deputy General Manager (Civil), Anil Singh Bhandari with Group Senior Manager (GSM), Rajesh Agarwal, Senior Manager (Geology), Bijendra Kaushik, Senior Manager (Finance), Hari Mohan, Deputy Managers, Assistant Managers and Junior Engineers along with contractual workers- all making strenuous efforts to make the event a grand success—(KNO)
